Homelessness in the Borders

In 2007/2008, Scottish Borders Council received 1,094 homelessness applications, which equates to 2.18% of Scottish Borders households (figures provided by SBC homelessness strategy 2009).

This is close to the national figure, and the reasons for homelessness are the same here as across Scotland: friends or relatives can no longer provide a home for the person; marital breakdown; action by landlords or the courts; housing debt; and personal vulnerability.
